A modular mixed-use building at Mac Point, which aims to establish a new relationship between urban living and natural health. A vibrant mixed-use building centred on a child care centre and supermarket, the building is notable for its lively façade with residential modules made of concrete and public modules made of wood protruding from it. The modular and minimalist green design of the exterior forms an enclosing vertical garden community space around the outdoor space to the north.

Natural Module: A view from the public entrance

The building's main feature is its dynamic modular façade. The housing program is composed of a grey façade in concrete, while the public modules such as the supermarket and child care centre are composed of a façade in timber, in order to clearly differentiate the floors of the different functions.

Natural Module: chilldcare centre

To ensure sufficient daylight into the building interior and plant growth, an enclosing vertical garden community space is formed around the outdoor space to the north, depending on the direction of the sun.

On the north facade of the building, sustainable, modular structural beams have been designed. Combined with thermal comfort and therefore with the energy efficiency of the building. This well avoids energy and carbon wastage, while adding a sense of vibrancy to the whole building.

Natural Module: Site Analysis

This is a modular mixed-use building at Mac Point called Natural Module, which aims to establish a new relationship between urban living and natural health.

The diagram shows that there are not enough childcare centres in the area near the site, and there are only two large Woolworths, and the closest supermarket and childcare centres to the Mac point are all within driving distance. At the same time, the number of people in Hobart will continue to grow over the next 10 years, with the 0 to 4 years old group reaching 4.5%. In this case, the Natural Module will be a mixed-use building centred on a child care centre, supermarket and housing program.

The Apartment program

The apartment types are designed for different users in a total of five different room types. One of the more interesting features of the apartment is the common space and public balcony. As can be seen from these two collages, the creation of a common space for the use of the flats promotes communication and creates a friendly and green atmosphere for the whole community.

The Entrance of public program

Addressing the integration of three different projects in the same building is the most important problem.

The entrance to the public program is centred on the north-west side, where there are public facilities to guide people through the area and increase the flow of visitors. The entrance to the supermarket is located on the south-east side of the building in accordance with the direction of the driveway, and the loading zone is accessed from the pathway without interfering with normal building operations.
