I’m a Melbourne-based Communication Designer, graduating in 2021 from MADA. In my design work, I love working with a combination of typography, illustration and bold, colourful graphics. I have a passion for publication and editorial design, working with printed materials and immersing myself in the process of creating an identity in design. The Not For Nothin' studio project has given me the opportunity to dive into the exploration and research process of identity design for a not-for-profit organisation which was really enriching. This has allowed me to develop outcomes with a much deeper understanding of the importance of communication design, and the huge role it plays within small community-based organisations.

Back2Bikes Brand Guidelines Documentation

Back2Bikes is a Not For Profit organisation, that dedicate their work to bike servicing and training for the local community. As an organisation with little recognition and formed purely from a team of volunteers, my main focus was to rebuild the identity and communication design of the Back2Bikes brand. My aim was to create a playful, yet approachable space through bold colours and simple illustrations.

Back2Bikes Brand Guidelines Documentation

A Brand Guidelines Document was created to ensure the new face of Back2Bikes is always conveyed in the same way. Consisting of 70 pages, the saddle stitched publication states the do’s and don’ts of the new brand image. The document covers everything from the new logos, colour palettes, typographic formatting and potential grid and layout structures. A main priority, while establishing the rebuild of Back2Bikes, was to create a cohesive and approachable design foundation.

Back2Bikes Bike Repair Kit

A Bike Repair Kit was created to reinforce the Back2Bikes mission of bicycle recycling and training for the local community. Small enough to be placed in your riding jersey’s back pocket or a small bike bag, the Repair Kit contains four “How to” cards, outlining the steps of what to do when you encounter minor bike misfunctions, ie. How to Change a Tyre. The packaging displays the new Back2Bikes logo, as well as the 4 colours associated with the new brand image. The playful, yet simplistic nature of the illustrations extend from the organisations warm and friendly nature.

Back2Bikes Hand-outs

Two foldable hand-outs were created to further advertise Back2Bikes and increase awareness about the organisation; Bicycle Donations and Bicycle Maintenance. The two hand-outs are small in size, and they both contain all the information needed on the two topics, as well as the organisation itself. They were created to outline what the next steps are for someone who wants to help out and give back. They continue with the Back2Bikes theme of simplicity and bold, playful colours, creating a cohesive brand image.

A Guide to Mountain Bike Riding

A Guide to Mountain Bike Riding documents the beginner trails scattered throughout the High Country. The guide was created to inform beginner riders of the start/end points, the gradient and any other connecting trails. The intended use of the guide is for riders to read, discover and prepare before they leave for their adventure. The guide presents itself in a 200mm x 200mm format and includes detailed descriptions of the trails, accompanied with maps of the local area. The project provided the opportunity to demonstrate typesetting, the use of grid structures and an ability to use a combination of both type and images.
