Hi! I’m Bree Mitchell, a Melbourne based designer. I enjoy design that focuses on illustration, publication, and photography.

I am...

I am... Is a social awareness campaign executed with an approach to the autistic community's perspective of needs. It aims to give children on the spectrum the opportunity to thrive in environments that, as they are, are not appropriate for their needs. It helps teachers, peers, and children on the spectrum.

Ryder in the Stars

Children who see and experience the world differently sometimes struggle. This book is written for those children and for the peers of children on the spectrum. It is a tool to help them understand that seeing the world differently is ok, that everyone is unique, and that those children need a way to navigate their world. It is done without labels and with the hope that children who are struggling might see a part of themselves in Ryder’s story and realise that they’re not alone.

Communication App

The communication app is designed for children on the spectrum. The app contains a list of messages for many everyday difficulties and scenarios, that the child can save into a personalised list. When either non verbal or experiencing sensory overload; they’re able to display a message conveying their feelings or needs, allowing them to self advocate.

Teachers Handbook

The teachers handbook is intended to inform teachers of the role they play in creating an inclusive education environment for children on the spectrum. It includes classroom and playground strategies, information on effective communication, and a questionnaire to fill out with the child’s parents in order to get a comprehensive view of the needs of the individual child.

Cryptids

A series of six booklets, enclosed in a trifold box, on mythical creatures. Designed to bring information to the reader in a way that fosters a sense of imagination and thrill by anchoring the creatures in reality.

Alien Planet

A self initiated illustration brief, used as an opportunity to explore Photoshop as an illustrative tool for the first time. The intention of this piece was to create a fun, unknown land inhabited by unique creatures.
A focus was placed on expressive characters as well as depicting depth in a two dimensional space.
