My practice explores a multi-disciplinary approach to design, blurring the boundaries of architecture, interior design and urban space. I am inspired by investigating human inhabitation and experiences of space, using conceptual design approaches and spatial conventions as tools to create atmospheres and address notions of social issues and sustainability. My bachelor studies in business also provide me with an additional perspective on design.

‘Submerged’ is my final semester project, a village and farming community supported across a series of floating modules located in the Gulf of Thailand.

Submerged

As the consequences of our own production, consumption and waste become more prevalent, we face the threats of rising sea levels and food insecurity. The floating farm and village proposal is located on the Gulf of Thailand, offering an innovative approach to the future of farming, food production and living.

The modular village embraces rising sea levels, acting as a modernised iteration of existing archipelago islands and prototypical floating homes in Thailand and Vietnam.

Submerged

Interior perspective.

The floating farm uses systems of triangular rainwater funnels to facilitate the growth of food.

Submerged

The farm acts as a central and communal hub within the village. The predominant sources of food are produced through the fish farm, aeroponic and hydroponic growing systems. The produce can also participate in trade with the mainland.

Coral biorock and algae farming located beneath the water assists in the regeneration of polluted waters in the ocean.

Submerged

The village embodies a ‘breathing’ system, where each module can be shifted and reconfigured, allowing for the village to expand and contract.

The Entitled

A multi-layered installation that encourages the acknowledgement of privilege within an individual. Within today’s environment, many remain unaware of their own entitlement, which can hinder societal progress towards equality.

‘The Entitled’ seeks to literally and metaphorically shine a light on privilege. With multiple marked viewpoints, participants are encouraged to stand at each point and observe the view. The central ‘point of privilege’ is where the anamorphic cutout aligns to reveal an image. When stepped on, a spotlight and the converging lines are illuminated, making the individual the centre point of the room.

Interconnect

An organic structure designed to protect the Eastern Pygmyfly (Nannophya dalei) – a native Australian dragonfly – during the most vulnerable stages of its lifecycle, and bring their habitat into closer relationship with human activity.

Proposed as an extension of an existing café alongside the Yarra River within the urban environment of Melbourne, Australia, the design encourages a better ecological balance, while increasing human awareness of the creature.
