Hello, my name is Hannah. I am a recent communications design graduate and am also completing a business degree majoring in marketing. My area of focus for Making Things Public was to explore people using public space as an escape during the gruelling lockdowns. Through exploring people seeking solitude as well as communities coming together, I created a publication to detail the escape that public space has been during the COVID-19 pandemic.

People in Lockdown

This project is a response to the open brief of making things public. The bright cover of the publication emphasises the emotion experienced when exploring people using public space in lockdown. The happiness shown by people despite the tough circumstances emphasised the power public space can have one ones mental health and wellbeing.

These stills from the publication are a taste of the theme and an exploration into photo documentation. The ability and power to capture human emotion and human contact through photography allowed me to represent what I experienced through exploring public space during the pandemic lockdowns.

People in Lockdown

Exploring people in public space highlighted the sense of solitude we often seek in public space. This still from the publication introduces an exploration into the use of public space as a refuge during lockdown.
