Hi, I’m Hilary! I’m a design and marketing student who is passionate about creating concept driven outcomes. I am particularly interested in brand identity, packaging and publication design.

For my Not For Nothin’ studio project, I focused on revitalising The Bushfire Foundation’s visual identity. This not-for-profit organisation not only provides assistance to bushfire survivors, they also help at risk individuals prepare their homes for the fire season.

The Bushfire Foundation

As this organisation assists individuals at a vulnerable stage in their lives, this proposed identity for The Bushfire Foundation remains sensitive to its target audience, while also remaining consistent with the brand’s core values.

As a result, the leaves in the logo act as a symbol of support and regeneration as they lean towards one another, like humans do in times of tragedy. The importance of bushfire preparedness is represented by the triangle warning form found hidden in the stems of the leaves.

The Bushfire Foundation, Bushfire Preparation Activity Book

One of the biggest bushfire safety challenges is that individuals living in high-risk areas underestimate their need to prepare and plan for a fire. In response to this problem, I have created a children’s activity book which aims to educate children about the importance of bushfire preparedness. In line with The Bushfire Foundation’s main mission, this book enhances bushfire preparedness by encouraging open discussion about bushfire safety from an early age.

The activity book has been designed in line with the proposed identity for The Bushfire Foundation, using the primary colours of green and gold. Lined illustrations appeal to the younger audience by communicating in a clear, fun and welcoming manner.

A range of children’s activities have been designed with fire preparedness in mind. The interactive nature of this book allows children to learn about this subject in an exciting and engaging manner.

Paper Architecture, Publication

Inspired by Branch Studio Architects’ entry for the Victorian Architecture Awards 2021, ‘Arco’, this publication pays tribute to the elements of ritual found within the structure. The circles are not only used to reference the light, shadow and forms within the canopy but further illustrate the act of gathering through their accumulation across the pages.

Vision 2022, Invitations

An identity was developed for an exhibition which celebrates the creative process of iconic Australian fashion brand, Romance Was Born. The display typeface has been created and informed by hand-stitched lettering found on their clothing, while the sheared zig zag edge is used in reference to the appearance of fabric samples.
