Hi, I’m Jessica ! Growing up, I’ve always had a love for design and over the years have grown an even bigger love for typography. My work mainly consists of anything type-based and publications that occasionally question the theme of self-identity. Because of this, I am inherently curious about other people, so don't be surprised if I suddenly approach you asking related questions!

My area of focus for Everyday Messaging is a typeface that morphs according to individual traits. This was roughly inspired by graphology readings where certain handwriting characteristics can be used to determine individual quirks. This allowed for a fun and interactive approach to the project.

Pont

Pont is a portmanteau of the two words “personality” and “font”. The typeface is loosely inspired by graphology where particular handwriting traits can be used to infer individual personalities and characteristics. In graphology, handwriting that appears more round often indicates that the individual is more creative while pointy letters convey that the individual is more intelligent. Consolidating this information, Pont was designed to consist of three different fonts: Round, Regular and Spiky.

Pont - Alphabet

The alphabet changes according to each individual and their chosen trait. This generates interest and a sense of playfulness to the typeface, where individuals are allowed to explore and customise to their satisfaction.

Pont - Website

To explore and exhibit the dynamics of the Pont typeface, a website was created. As users initially visit the website, the base font (Pont-Regular) is displayed, inviting users to play around and adjust the typeface characteristics to best suit their own traits through a range of different sliders. The design is intended to be sleek and minimalistic, with the sole focus being on Pont itself. Visit the website and have a play at: p-font.com/

Pont - Results

The results page allows you to view your results. This gives you the percentages of what you have chosen on the sliders as well as your final typeface. A handful of these results have been collected and you are able to see the diversity of the outcomes. Please be mindful that these results do not determine your true traits !

Pick a Colour poster

This poster is one of the final responses for an open documentation brief. It asks peers to write down the name of a colour in the way they think best represents that colour. The psychological aspect of this project enabled the creation of a fascinating poster that showcases the diversity and difference in the ways individuals perceive colour.

Millennial Talk

Millennial talk is a series of posters which takes popular slang, portmanteau and initialism from the millennial vocabulary. It is loosely inspired by comic books and the different pink, blue and yellow combinations represent different categories.
