Mandy has been tinkering in design for more than 30 years. Working around family commitments, she has attained an HD average, New Colombo Scholarship, and a Golden Key membership for high achievement. Her final project, The Oxy-Tunnel, is a modular bike path structure that encourages natural organic growth around it, creating a cleaner oxygen-enriched environment. A sanctuary for cyclists - away from the polluted roads - where nature can be enjoyed within the urban environment. The Oxy-Tunnel was created to provide an opportunity for commuters to cycle to their destinations in safety.

The Oxy-Tunnel

A modular, cyclist only, clean infrastructure initiative.

Inside The Oxy-Tunnel

Aesthetically, the structure will eventually blend into nature, with vegetation encouraged to grow up. This vegetation will include vines that will, over time, tangle and surround the design in an oxygen-filled chamber and form a dense barrier between the cyclists and the cars.

The complete Oxy-Tunnel system will work to facilitate the major thoroughfare between Huntingdale Station and Monash Clayton campus. But in its essence, it will be a connection to nature and a barrier from the dangers of the road. It will allow the user to bathe in oxygen otherwise depleted from the 3-lanes of cars belching smog on either side of the trail.
