Hola, I’m Mark! A not so Spanish designer from Melbourne that loves Rafael Nadal and publication design, branding, typography, and print. I’m a hands-on designer that has a passion for producing pieces of work that exist not only digitally, but physically. Whenever I get an opportunity, I love to make my communication design work tangible by crafting a publication, printing, and using the laser cutter. Don’t worry, I still love designing digital only work, I'll probably just print it for fun and hang it up on my wall.

Ikigai Geocache

Throughout this studio, I set myself the task of designing a geocache (a hidden container with a logbook inside) around the theme of Ikigai, or, "your reason for being". The geocache is designed to be inconspicuously hidden amongst the many other books in a library. Once the geocache is found, either accidentally, or via the geocache app, the individual is presented with their "Ikigai Pal". A workshop-like box which prompts the individual to READ about what Ikgai is, LOG if they have found their Ikigai, and use a worksheet to FIND it, if they haven't already.

Springvale Community Hub Book

This publication was designed in response to the Victorian Architectural Awards featured building, the Springvale Community Hub. Springvale is one of the most culturally diverse suburbs in Australia and the community hub was built with this in mind. To capture the cultural diversity of Springvale, my publication features many different coloured sections, each of which represent the proportion of a particular ethnicity in Springvale. For example, 21.1% of the population in Springvale is Vietnamese, so 21.1% of the pages in my publication are red.

Singularity Album Cover

For this brief, we were challenged to represent a song without any lyrics, via the use of typography. Singularity, by Stephan Bodzin is an electronic song that takes you through a melodic journey. The song starts with a basic kick and beat until eventually, an array of synths and other unique sounds pervade. I endeavoured to capture this journey is my album art which features uniform typography that progressively becomes more layered, wavy and alluring.
