Mia Tiernan is a multidisciplinary artist and designer whose practice focuses on the human body and how it occupies and interacts with space. Mia is driven by materiality, experimentation, and conceptual underpinnings. The following selected works encourage participants to engage through full-body, interactive experiences.

Awakening. (Collaboration with Cynthia Cheng)

Can technology replace human touch? Awakening is a speculative treatment centre that encourages the release of the stress reducing hormone, oxytocin, in elderly beings embracing mortality and suffering from loneliness.
Through three bodily experiences, Embrace, Immersion and Levitation explore the body’s interactions with advanced technologies such as AI and low technologies to prompt the body into a state of relaxation.

Self Reflector; Reflector, Observer.

Self Reflector is a space filled with reflective forms activated by the presence of the viewer, to produce a sense of uneasiness and self-awareness through a constant play on reflective surfaces and human observation. Visitors’ psychological and physical awareness is heightened, while awareness of their relationship to others is also amplified.

Self Reflector; Reflector.

Visitors in the Reflector space are invited to view themselves in the reflective surfaces and observe how they move through the space.

Self Reflector; Observer.

Visitors in the Observer space are ‘observing the observed’ which is to trigger self-awareness in relation to social spaces.
