I use different mediums to explore ideas, such as collage, rendering or physical models. Along with theoretical knowledge, I explore new forms and materials to imagine the future. Algae Station is to think about how the environment can be improved by replacing fossil fuel with algae. lt speculates different usages of fuel stations offering clean energy, oxygen, and water.

Algae station

Algae Station is covered by a large photobioreactor, which circulates water filled with algae. Algae is up to 400 times more effi- cient than a tree for removing CO2 from the atmosphere when used with a photobioreactor. Algal oil is extracted and chemical- ly converted into biofuel to power cars. Then, the carbon dioxide emitted by vehicles that run on biofuels is reabsorbed by pho- tobioreactors. This creates a cycle that avoids the damage caused by carbon dioxide.

Perspective view of the station

The oxygen bar uses Chlorella Vulgaris. Due to its robustness and adaptability, Chlorella Vulgaris can grow over a wide range of pH and temperature levels and carbon dioxide concentrations. The refuelling area uses Spirulina. It can remove up to 80% of nitrogen and phosphorus from domestic wastewater.

Car refuelling area

The car refuelling area is an entirely self-service facility. The top of the refuelling unit is connected to the biofuel pipeline. The height of the service unit is 1.3 meters to facilitate self-operation.

Photobioreactor swing

The oxygen bar is an open plan. The sides of the oxygen bar are covered by glass. The front and back area is open. In the middle, there is a swing made of photobioreactor tubes. The swing is equipped with an oxygen intake tube for people to take in oxygen while resting.

Interior of the oxygen bar

The algae-filled water is circulated in a photobioreactor, continuously producing oxygen. Each station has three open oxygen bars with seats and stretchable oxygen tubes. While people wait for their cars to refuel, they can take a break in the oxygen bar next door to get fresh oxygen.

Fountains

The station also has three fountains that provide purified water through algae.
