Hello, I'm Rachel, a multi-disciplinary designer and recent Communication Design graduate based in Melbourne. I'm currently completing a Bachelor of Business with a marketing major, at Monash University, graduating in 2022. Over the past three years, my business degree has allowed me to approach design tasks from a marketing perspective. I have enhanced my skills within the different adobe programs and have been enjoying the exploration and learning process. My work extends across brand identity, publication design and animation in digital and printed matter, intending to create innovative design solutions that speak to the context of the work.

Undercurrent, Multi-functional Application

The smartphone application for nonprofit organisation Undercurrent is designed in alignment with the new brand guidelines. The Covid-19 lockdown has left many women more vulnerable to domestic violence. I came up with a digital solution for victims to ask for help easier and quicker. The SOS function allows you to set your emergency contact and organisations you trust. By pressing the onscreen SOS button, an alert will send out immediately via phone call and SMS with your precise GPS location. The app also reminds people of Undercurrent's upcoming events and allow them to review their personalised timetable while containing a wealth of educational and informative resources.

Undercurrent, Brand Guidelines Document (Toolkit)

Undercurrent is a nonprofit organisation focused on community education, building healthy relationships and challenging the attitudes, beliefs and actions that enable violence. The task was to redesign their brand identity and communications to increase accessibility and pervasiveness to more audiences. This brand guideline demonstrates the refined brand identity, which incorporates warm, brisk colours and illustrations to create engaging and welcoming visuals for audiences. The heart-shaped character is designed to be the Mascot of the organisation as part of the brand visual asset to convey the personality and values of the organisation.

Qingdao Memories Postcards

Paper stock: 350g textured stock
Dimension: 9.98cm x 14.78cm
The Qingdao Memories series of postcards are the design outcome developed in the Observation studio. It contains eight pages of front-and-back postcards. One side is a collage of Qingdao iconic European architecture with various plants. The other side is left blank for writing, while a simple plant illustration indicates where the stamp goes. The splendour frame constructed by plant samples works in concert with the exquisite gorgeous European style of the building, evokes the exclusive memories of the Qingdao people of local buildings and plants.

YDHS Photo Journal Brochure

Paper stock: 150gsm, white embossed card stock (840mm x 148mm)
Folding Methods: Accordion fold brochures (8 panels)
Yarram Integrated Healthcare Centre is one of Yarram's few new public buildings in many years and it offers a welcoming environment to the public. This photo journal brochure is designed to demonstrate the continuity and fluidity of the YDHS architecture, following the Paper Architecture brief. The photo journal is in black and white, using just photographs with minimal use of text content. The photo journal intends to convey the idea of an inclusive community to the audience. The layout of the photos gives a sense of consistency and continuity by cutting out photos on edges.

Love No More, EP Record Sleeve & Animated Banner

An identity for The Durutti Column - 'Love No More', displayed on a 7-inch EP record sleeve. This track evoked a tangled, grieved sadness through its immersive guitar melody. Inspired by Letterform Collage by Brook Griffin, this identity was formulated on the basis of collage, using typography and stop-motion to create a unique representation of the song. The use of manual collage production methods and a yellowish scratched parchment background add a handmade texture to the visual identity. The word 'NO' is solid and striking, while the words' LOVE' and 'MORE' are made of small letters cut from the type specimen sheet to express an emotional atmosphere where love is fickle and uncertain.

Braderie de Lille Event Promotion Poster

This concept poster was designed for the annual two-day Braderie de Lille flea market, the largest flea market in all of Europe. Rather than existing posters composed of vibrant colours and modern typeface, my design approach is to create a retro-style collage with vintage style typeface, which could highlight the theme of this festival and emphasis its old history. The collage of antique objects in the flea market expresses the vintage and antique feeling of the Braderie De Lille festival. A consistent typeface and colour palette are used for the poster's front and back to achieve design consistency.
