Hello, my name is Ruoxuan (Zoe) Shi and I have recently graduated with a double degree of communication design and media communication from Monash University. I am passionate about publication design, typography, video editing, identity design and all poetic expressions. I like to explore the relationship between text and image, and I like pure text/pure image artwork because of the strong contrast between these two.
Public Space Play Space
The aim of this book is to understand the extent to which the social space phenomenon of playgrounds promotes the integration of children into the public sphere, and thus critically examine the concept of 'child-friendly spaces'.
Public Space Play Space
The first part of this book is about two articles exploring urban children's public space. The first article explores urban public space from the perspective of children, and the second article discusses the public value of child-friendly space and reconsiders the opportunity to design a new type of playground.
Public Space Play Space
The second part is a visual chapter of pure images. I chose two parks in my city, one that I thought was child-friendly and one that wasn't. I took photos to compare the two parks and highlighted them in color and arrows. In the process of photographing, I found that many parks are unsafe and unfriendly to children, which will encorage readers to think about the improvement of children's spaces.
Public Space Play Space
Public spaces for children are useful to facilitate the activities of children in learning and understanding the surrounding environment. Open spaces such as parks which can ideally be used for children’s activities are insufficient to facilitate children’s activities. There are still numerous parks as public activity space which are not child-friendly, especially in case of safety issues and spatial functions for children.
