Hi, Sean here. I choose to confront design in an expressive and inspired way, hoping to meaningfully reach the viewer. My studio project discerns my conflicted beliefs on the future of myself and design. My work abstractly conceives a social disconnect, extracted metaphors of my inner turmoil based on the last year. It is not always my goal to be so allusive in my design practice, but sometimes I believe the viewer should contemplate and ponder more on what is in front of them. Furthermore, the studio has allowed me to apply these sociocultural implications to a unique approach that fosters discussion and reflection. Please visit my site for alternative articulations.

VR entry 715 (Live From New Worlds Broadcast)

Live From New Worlds is an expression of the expanding new normal online space.
My broadcast explores an abstract future perspective of escapism, where virtual reality is normalized in society. The video is a simulated VR diary recording from the future, poetically pondering on the unrecognizable future that will allow us to simulate the physicality of reality and social interactions. Mixed and augmented reality filming techniques were used to video the different perspectives and digital worlds.

Clement Meadmore Exhibition Identity (Poster Event Invitation)

The State Library of Victoria is creating an expansive exhibition named ‘Vision 2021’. My chosen design identity within the exhibition focuses on Clement Meadmore, a minimalist sculptor known for massive outdoor steel sculptures. He has stated that he works with “geometry as a grammar”, therefore the identity is based around the notion. On the poster, the words were typographically sculpted to stand alongside one of his works, channelling his artistic mentality into a poster design.

Melbourne Cinémathèque 2021, General Promotion Screen (Digital Display)

The Melbourne Cinémathèque screens a selection of art house films throughout the year. This proposed design is a general promotion screen for digital display. The presented identity is created through the relevant old filming technique of celluloid manipulation, where scratched film was projected onto myself, captured with long exposure photography and videography.

Malvern East (Observation Publication)

Malvern East is the location I chose to observe for my observation publication. To capture perpetual suburban themes, I filmed step-printed video around my area. I then took screenshots of this footage and reflected these images together in the publication. To document the publication, I photographed the book in the locations where the images were taken, further accentuating the duality of Malvern East.

Satirical Singlet Advertisement (Infographic Video)

My Infographic Video is based around how male singlets have a stigma of toxic masculinity, where they are nicknamed “wife beaters”. Marketing should not be so full of gender stereotypes, perpetuating toxic masculine images. Therefore, my satirical infographic video mocks male product advertisements by doing what they do but with subtle absurdity.

Resonance - Home (Record Sleeve Redesign)

Resonance by Home, paints a picture of a deep dream, enveloped in feelings of nostalgia and longing. To design the album cover, I started by flowing the type on a path. This allowed me to overflow and overwhelming the design with resonating type and a colour gradient that evokes warm and vivid feelings. A white box and title contrast and frame the design, capturing an echoed resonance like the reverberating track.
