Hi, this is Tiancheng Liu, or you call me Rick as well. I am currently graduating with my communication design degree. My chosen studio was Reform; I created a mobile short-video platform to help people suffering from nervousness before a presentation. With deep psychology theory research, I hope my outcome will reduce people’s nervous feelings without them even noticing. I am not good at presenting aesthetic impact to my audience, and I prefer to focus on people’s inner thoughts; I hope my design work can bring some internal thinking to people. Besides that, I also enjoy developing my technical skills. The following six projects will lead you through my design preference.

Simpresent

Simpresent is a short-video platform that helps people who feel nervous about presentation to relax their mind and reduce their nervousness. It then provides reliable resources and a free discussion place to help them improve. The outcome is aiming to help people who feel nervousness and anxiety before presentation. Whatever kind of language they speak, however how old are they. If they would love to spend free time at a short-video platform, then this is the right place for them.

Social problem pattern

70% of young adults suffer nervousness before presentation. Not to mention those who need to present at work. Nervousness can make people negative, and it is difficult to regain confidence when there is no forward motivation. The key thing is, once people make mistakes, how to lead them back on to the right track. Here I thought once people can NOT get back on track, their mind and thinking will fall apart, which lead to a bad presentation. Then when the next presentation is coming, they will be even more scare and nervous, which creates this vicious circle. After that, people will never review their mistakes and clam down enough to check internet tutorials.

Self-deprecating humour

With academic support, self-deprecating humour can help people with body and mental nervousness seek positive feedback from other people. People do this by creating a ‘failing video’, which is the person’s funny mistakes, edited with funny atmosphere music. Simpresent encourages users to upload their failure presentation videos and edit them with a humourous atmosphere. The video pool will mix with real life funny or fail moments as well, to create a relaxing community atmosphere. People fear to be laughed at in public space, this will reduce their social anxiety. By seeing these videos, users will be able to relax their mind and reduce their nervousness by regaining social belonging, showing to the user that ‘you are not alone’.

Features

Simpresent provides a free platform to let users discuss whatever they want, it’s like a free time where everyone is off stage chatting or exchanging experiences. Users can choose to show their identity or completely hide themselves. Once users know what they could do, or what they are missing, they can come to the tutorials and directly find that they need. Same with Discussion, users can press the ‘useful’ button to let more people know this one is useful. By as many people doing this, the user will know they are not the only one who has one specific problem. Users can always check back everything they did in the Simpresent.

Broken shower room

It describes a building high shower room standing among a night city. Over time, the water inside overflows and floods the entire city. The music is smoother in the first half and turns confusing in the middle. With the confused atmosphere, the water floods the entire city, and it breaks the shower at the end. This reflects the inner world of people after an exhausting day, and the first half represents people resting after tired. But once thinking about the future pressure, they fall into confusion and panic, and the final broken sound also represents the people who are knocked down by the pressure. I hope people who watching this, can always remember to take a break during busy working.

Infinity Apartment - Alone and Lost

It describes a girl wakes in a strange apartment, while outside is the busy night city. She found that the time on the clock never reached the next minute. She tries to escape, as she walks out the room, the door drops and disappears. The emergency door at hallway stays lock as well. Suddenly, the clock managed to reach the next minute, and the elevator representing the escape arrived, she rushes into the elevator. But the clock bounced back to the previous minute again, with the sound of the girl whacking the elevator, the screen goes black. People working in busy cities are prone to do the same things repeatedly every day, causing them to lose the direction of their lives.
