Hi, I’m Vanessa! I enjoying creating and designing both printed and digital publications through imagery, graphics and motion. My studio project of ‘Live From New Worlds’ aims to present the juxtaposition between the digital and natural world. The final broadcast brings to light the ‘constructed realities’ and ‘utopian landscapes’ from a variety of different forms of media, both old and new. It has allowed me to experiment through different types of software, research and motion graphics. To explore and present concepts that question the status quo and test new ways of designing.

Live From New Worlds: Title Cards, 'Deep Blue'
An animated film title, presenting the opening for the finial broadcast that showcases the rich and diverse worlds for humans, nonhumans and digital machines. Inspired by ‘The Stack’, Deep Blue’ is presented literally through the dynamic and otherworldly footage. However, it further alludes to a bigger idea of the digital realm and its capacity to mimic, retrieve, store and share all kinds of information about us and our history.

Live From New Worlds Opening to Major Broadcast
This is the opening scene from the major broadcast, drawing upon old news feeds and from the perspective of ‘the cloud’. This broadcast is largely focused on the contrast between the natural world and how technology attempts to mirror these natural processes of the earth in graphic and animated ways.

Live From New Worlds: Intermission
This intermission is an introduction to the major broadcast. Within the intermission, I have drawn on references to Live TV, old news reels and weather reports. The use of contrasting audio aimed to create a juxtaposition between the animated and natural footage and ultimately transport the viewer to above ‘the clouds’. This is to create an ‘idealistic dreamscape’ through my intermission whilst during attention to the constructed digital world through the broken and jagged typographic treatment.

Italiano Collection
This project showcases an array of different doilies and tablecloths that have been designed and handmade by my Nonna, Olivia Crivelli. As she has grown older, her eyesight has deteriorated and can no longer hand stitch or sew. The intention of this publication is to change her perspective and present ‘her work’ so she can look back at what she’s made and be proud of her success. The tablecloths are soft and authentic. I have tried to reflect this in the publication’s exterior and traditional ‘Italian red’.

Ubu Films: Gallery facade column flags
The concept for the Ubu Films exhibition is that it showcases the faces of those featured in their experimental, vibrant and outrageous productions. The name of the exhibition ‘16 mm’ is the media in which the people were captured and shown to audiences across the country. This outcome is light hearted and playful to emulate the same nature that the Ubu Film Members left on Sydney’s underground culture through their spirited and radical productions.
