Yanhui (Janelle) Jiang - MADA NOW 2021 - Art, Design and Architecture

Hello! This is Yanhui Jiang, you can also call me Janelle. I am now a student in Monash Communication Design. I like to keep my curiosity by exploring different fields, and I am willing to accept different challenges. My work encompasses visual communication, layout, poster, package and user experience design, as well as a small amount of product design. In my penultimate semester, In the Reform studio the purpose of my project was to overturn the non-standard status of the pet funeral industry in today's society. In addition, I am interested in history, literature and psychology, so in my another Typography course, I made a museum manual and a book to explore the subconscious.

Utopia Box

This is a "Utopia Box" that can be virtualized by scanning a QR code. For pet owners who want to have a way to remember their departed pet, the "Utopia Box" is a urn that can display pet images. Unlike other funeral derivatives, this design is a product that can transform pet photos into soul dynamics through an artificial intelligence system. Pet owners can interact with it, helping owners to remember the companionship of their pet and relieve the painful emotions of losing their pet.

Pet Funeral Stories

This is a storyboard about pet funerals that I hand-drew using Procreate. The purpose is to reshape the unreasonable pet funeral industry that exists in today's society, reshaping the relationship between the owner and their departed pet.

Utopia Home-Pet Funeral Home

Since there are very few funeral places for pets in the world today, I want to design a place that specializes in pet funerals and farewell ceremonies; to help pet owners bid farewell to their dead pets, the funeral home service professionally handles animal corpses and hold farewell ceremonies. This pet funeral home has 5 rooms and 1 hall: cremation room, prayer room, memorial room, urn making room, storage room and waiting hall.

When My Aunt's Goldfish Passed Away

This story revolves around pet funerals. The story originated from the death of my aunt’s goldfish, she was very sad. When she was about to bury her goldfish directly, she received a mobile phone advertisement -"Utopia Home". After telling her that burying animal carcasses is harmful to the environment, it offered to provide her with a more convenient, safer and better Pet funeral service.

THE SUBCONSCIOUS & CLASSICAL TREASURE

The first book is a popular science book about the subconscious mind of psychology. The main purpose is to help people better understand their personality characteristics, the influence of the subconscious and the environment on themselves, and to help people better adapt to society and develop a person's potential.
In addition, the second book is a tour manual about Nanjing Museum. The main content of the manual contains a cultural relic search and introduction. The purpose is to let visitors look for cultural relics in different exhibitions or to participate in exhibition activities with curiosity, exploring the unknown spirit.

BIOLOGICAL COMPETITION

This is a design for plant packaging - it mainly reflects the relationship between competition and cooperation in the biosphere. It further reflects the relationship between man and nature, and how animals and plants play their respective "roles". I saw the thorns on the cactus and the lush leaves of the tiger Piran like a "tongue". It feels like they have emotions of anger and jealousy-this weird emotion is also reflected in the competitive relationship in the biosphere. Of course, in the biosphere, there are also friendly and peaceful, mutually competitive, and interdependent biological chains.
