Yijia Hu

The design takes the element of Chinese traditional design auspicious clouds as the center around the 14 panels with the characteristics of their respective countries to show to the masses. The order of arrangement is based on the counterclockwise rotation of the world map from east to west. The auspicious clouds pattern means auspicious clouds, expressing the auspicious, joyful and happy wishes and the beautiful aspiration for life. As a representative of traditional Chinese auspicious patterns, it is a unique representative Chinese cultural symbol, as is the dragon pattern. The main theme of the design is to convey the central idea of peace at the border.

Based on the research of the traditional culture of 14 border countries and their geographical locations, I designed 14 icon panels representing their respective countries. The color scheme uses black and white, and the materials used vary depending on the icon. These include fans with Korean song and dance culture, Russian embroidery, Mongolia's unique yurt, Kazakhstan's musical instruments, Kyrgyzstan's fabric patterns, Tajikistan's fabric patterns, Afghanistan's desert, Pakistan's hand-made patterns, India's yoga, Nepal's mountains, Bhutan's bows and arrows, Myanmar's fishing nets, Laos' national flower, and Vietnam's bamboo hats.

Unlike the front view, when the visitor looks at the back of the design, it is no longer black and white. Each icon panel has a different color as well as material. They include wood, blue wool textile, wool felt, herringbone wood glossy, black wool felt, rosy red fabric, sand-colored rough plastic, blue rough plastic paint, orange rubber foam, white rubber form, bamboo, mahogany wood, light yellow plastic and light colored bamboo. The choice of materials corresponds to the different icons of each country.

I used Photoshop to simulate a scene of PEACE AROUND design in a park, including two people watching. You can see its size as well as its scale in the picture. The size is 1.6m high x 1.8m wide.

I used 1.5mm white board and 2mm white board to make a small PEACE AROUND model.
