Hi! My name is Ziying, and I am currently about to go into my fourth year of Bachelor of Design and Business. I major in communication design and marketing, and I like to look at project briefs from an artistic and commercial perspective. After studying communication design at MADA, I have become a multi-disciplinary designer, branching into identity design, publication design, illustration and typography. With my passion for design, I like to create things that are meaningful and innovative. I enjoy experimenting with colour and type in graphic design and creating interactions between the design and the audience.

AMWRRO Street Poster

For my studio project, I chose the non-profit organisation AMWRRO, which stands for Australian Marine Wildlife Rescue and Research Organisation. The project specifies re-branding the organisation and starts from logo to brand guidelines and other collateral items. The branding aims to create movement and organic illustrations that symbolise the ocean. The use of colour palette and typeface was considered thoroughly, as the primary logo and design elements retain a consistent manner.

AMWRRO Flyer

The primary objective of AMWRRO is to rescue and rehabilitate injured marine wildlife from Australian waters. It is the only organisation in South Australia licensed to rescue, rehabilitate, and release all seals, seabirds, and sea turtle species. A series of posters and publications was created for this project, to increase brand awareness and clearly established who AMWRRO are and how can people support the organisation.

AMWRRO Emergency Contact Card

The relative collateral items are designed for the organisation for physical use. The aim is to unify all design elements throughout the organisation’s operation, and to maximise brand awareness in the public.

Melbourne Cinémathèque

Melbourne Cinémathèque is a non-for profit, volunteer-run, film society that screen a range of classic and modern films in a variety of genres. In my approach of designing the identity, I have designed a unique typeface for this project. The aim of the design is to emphasize the personality of the typography while combining linear elements in the layout.

Peter Corrigan: To Build The Unbuildable

This design is part of an exhibition identity for State Library Victoria showcasing the works of Peter Corrigan. Peter Corrigan was an Australian architect and was involved in the completion of works in stage and set design. Peter’s works mostly use bold colours and sharp layouts, as well as creating a sense of space to label the experiential building. The branding uses a mix of a series of patterns, to create a playful and polygonal layout. As well as avoiding the use of the traditional plan.
