I'm Arielle Joyce, and I have been making art for as long as I can remember (as well as even before that!).
While I naturally gravitate toward more traditional art forms such as drawing and painting, I have used the practical and art-historical education offered by Monash University to experiment, and expand my art practice in ways I would not otherwise consider. In this Grad Exhibition, I have manipulated paper to accentuate its sculptural potential, and used animation to convey drawings in a way that is new to me.
Studying Visual Arts at Monash has helped me improve as an artist in every way, and I look forward to the art-making and study that awaits me in the future!

Drawing from Memory

I have drawn my entire life. One of my earliest memories is lying in front of the boxy TV in the corner of our lounge room, trying to replicate the images I saw from the screen onto my paper.
Often, drawing is seen as a flat art form – mere lines on a sheet of paper; however, it has so much more potential! In Drawing from Memory, I aim to broaden the restrictive definitions of drawing. Via coloured paper pulp and projection of animation, I want to bring structure and dimension to the art practice which has been such an integral part of my life. Drawing from Memory is a tangible manifestation of the intangible recollections I have of drawing, and a celebration of my art practice thus far.
