Rest

Humans are expected to sleep for a third of their lifetime. Whilst we cannot be certain about what happens during these estimated 229,961 hours, there is a certainty that they will be spent in some form of slumber. As people attempt to mitigate the chaos of the contemporary experience through sleep, there are always those who cannot dream and disengage. Rest is an arrangement of contemporary video works constructed by four artists during their waking hours to explore our relationship with respite- existing cohesively as a both a reprieve and nightmare. Structured to mimic the four stages of sleep, the online-based video project seeks to reflect on our brittle society’s need of rest.
