Asobi, details of interaction with installation

yarn, thread, beads, magnets, up cycled fabrics and packaging materials

These creature like soft sculptures provide opportunity to engage with one's true emotions as a result of their visual, auditory and tactile experiences. A variety of textures, colours and organic forms provide a sense of curiosity, security and calm. Visitors are compelled to interact with the objects and encounter unexpected surprises. The body of work has a NO RULES approach. A way to go against the common NO TOUCH policy of galleries and bring play into a formal space. The upcycled fabrics and materials used add layers of history and life to the creature like forms that have reshaped how we interact with textiles.

Metamorphosis

video still, duration 3:14 minutes, dimensions variable

The video work explore ideas of childhood, identity and connected memories. I used my interest in sound and textiles to bring these ideas to life. Once put on, the costume worn brought to life a persona that I see as an extension of my own. I allowed the costumes' weight and sound to direct my movement , taking me back to childhood nostalgia of dancing and singing outside. This specific video still captures a moment where the costume appears like a creature, constantly adapting and responding to it's environment.
