Making peace demands more than one would expect. There is a violence to splitting off, to laying your own separate path on the earth. Maybe a fissure is inevitable in the process of reconciling the past. But there is also a kind of breakage that neither has to shed excessively, nor require a clean slate. Like a rift in low cloud opening new lines of sight, perhaps I can gild the fracture: deem peaceful what is complicated, encourage clarity in darkness, build without destruction. Germinate, sprout and push for the sun, like flowers through concrete.
