The Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences (MNHS) stands as a powerhouse of education, research and industry collaboration. Alongside clinical trial leadership and clinical translation, we lead foundational discovery research, from molecular mechanisms of disease, genomics and bioinformatics to regenerative medicine, population health and AI enabled biosciences. Our discovery platforms create the knowledge, methods and data assets that seed new diagnostics, therapies, models of care, policy and practice.
The Monash Univeristy School of Clinical Sciences at Monash Health (SCS) is one of ten schools of the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences, and is its largest clinical school.

About the role
Professor and Head, School of Clinical Sciences at Monash Health.
The Head of the School of Clinical Sciences at Monash Health is a senior academic leadership position, responsible for driving excellence in research, teaching and professional engagement across one of Monash University’s flagship clinical schools.
The appointee will lead the continued development of world-class research and education programs, strengthening the School’s national and international reputation. Central to the role is establishing a shared strategic vision aligned with the Sub-Faculty of Clinical and Molecular Medicine, Faculty and University priorities, and overseeing all aspects of academic planning, resource allocation,operational management and scholarly performance.
As Professor and Head, the role provides high-level strategic leadership, fosters a culture of research excellence, secures competitive grants and supports early and mid career researchers and HDR students. The appointee will guide curriculum development, ensure high-quality teaching and drive the growth of the HDR program.
Strong partnership building is essential, including collaboration with Monash Health, the Monash Victorian Heart Institute, the Hudson Institute, the Monash Centre for Health Research and Implementation (MCHRI), other faculties and national and international organisations. The position also carries responsibility for staff leadership, performance development and sound budget management, contributing significantly to the profession and broader community.

Our co-location at major health service providers creates the best opportunity for clinical research excellence and translation. It provides a diverse range of specialities and are at the forefront of medical, clinical/translational research and education.

Most research and teaching activities of the School are based at Monash Medical Centre, Clayton. Monash Medical Centre is the major tertiary referral hospital for Monash Health, which serves a population of over 1.5 million people and is Monash University’s largest hospital partner.
The School of Clinical Sciences at Monash Health is a major teaching resource for Monash as its largest deliverer of clinical teaching in the MD degree curriculum and the host of its Nutrition degrees.
Basic, clinical, and translational research are undertaken by the departments of the School: Medicine; Nutrition, Dietetics & Food; Obstetrics and Gynaecology; Paediatrics; Psychiatry; Surgery; Radiology and Radiological Sciences, and associated University Research Centres. SCS has over 270 PhD students and also supports students completing a BMedSc (Hons) or MPhil, often in conjunction with medical training.
Researchers of the School collaborate closely with clinical areas in Monash Health, and many of the School’s principal investigators are leading clinician-scientists. The School is believed to have the largest number of clinicians enrolled in higher degrees by research of any teaching hospital in Australia.

Weather
Melbourne enjoys a true seasonal climate with sunny summers, mild autumns, crisp winters and warm springs. Don’t be surprised if you experience all four seasons in one day.
In the summer period starting from December - February, temperatures are between 14 - 25.3°C (57.2 - 77.5°F).
In winter time (June - August), average temperatures range from 6.5 - 14.2°C (43.7 - 57.6°F), and snow falls in the north-east of Victoria, known as High Country.
The city is always alive. You’ll find Melburnians unwinding at bars, beaches and restaurants all year round.
