STAREE Bushfire Crisis Message, January 2020

In this time of crisis, our thoughts are with everyone affected by the ongoing bushfires. The destruction is hard to fathom and we are saddened by the devastation caused to communities and wildlife. We honour the heroic efforts of firefighters protecting lives and property and thank all who are contributing to bushfire relief and recovery efforts.

Participant safety is our number one priority. Staff at the Coordinating Centre at Monash University Melbourne are keeping abreast of fire conditions and alerts by monitoring official channels. Any upcoming visits in areas issued an ‘Emergency Warning’ (red) or ‘Warning (Watch and Act)’ (orange) will be cancelled. If this applies to you – staff will be in touch to confirm the cancellation. Visits in areas with ‘Advice’ (yellow) warning will go ahead. This is an interim measure during this bushfire crisis.

If you have concerns about attending a visit – do not hesitate to get in touch. Your safety is paramount. Do not travel through unsafe areas. Visits can be rescheduled or conducted via phone. Please ring STAREE on 1800 770 664. We will also be able to assist you with any other issues, such as loss of study medication.

At this difficult time, we aim to support our STAREE community to the best of our ability and thank you for your valuable contribution.
