Volunteers & Internships

Volunteer and Internship Placements
Volunteer and internship placements at MUMA offer participants the chance to learn how a museum operates and to develop new and transferable skills that are useful in many professional contexts.

MUMA hosts 3-5 interns annually across our different working areas: curatorial, collections, engagement, communications and arts management.

MUMA partners with MADA to host two BAHC internships each year. These are awarded to 3rd year students of the Monash Bachelor of Art History and Curating degree.

Volunteers join the MUMA team on a regular weekly basis and keep up-to-date with current exhibitions and events, meet and engage with visiting artists and curators, gain experience in a broad range of museum areas and work closely with the Front of House team.

Apply for Volunteer and Internship Placements
Fill out our Volunteer Application Form and return it to MUMA by email (to muma@monash.edu), post or in person. Our address is located at the bottom of this page.

Internship application are accepted on a rolling basis and reviewed twice a year in April and July. Internships are for fixed periods of time and may be offered as a school or university industry-based placement. Email muma@monash.edu to express interest in undertaking an internship with MUMA.

Work Experience
MUMA’s Year 10 Work Experience Program gives secondary students the opportunity to experience a range of activities that are part of a career in the arts, including curating, collection management, front-of-house, education, and public programming.

Each year, MUMA hosts two Year 10 work experience students.

We receive a large number of requests for placements and, while we truly value the interest and enthusiasm, we are unfortunately unable to accommodate everyone. If you are interested in applying, please complete the form below and a member of our team will be in touch.
