Characterisation

The Monash Centre for Atomically Thin Materials (MCATM) presented a one-day workshop on two-dimensional (2D) materials characterisation. Participants learnt about the different experimental techniques available within MCATM and at other institutions in Melbourne, and how they can be applied to measure  the  fundamental properties of 2D materials.

Techniques covered included scanning probe microscopy, electron and optical microscopy and synchrotron-based photoelectron spectroscopy. Presentations and discussions will focus on the technique, the theory behind it and its implementation in two-dimensional materials research. See our program for the day.

Our invited speakers panel consisted of researchers from MCATM and Monash University along with colleagues from The University of Melbourne, CSIRO, the Australian Synchrotron and the Melbourne Centre for Nanofabrication. Read more on our speakers.

We had 146 delegates attending this workshop on 30 May 2016 from local universities and industry representatives. Check out photos and presentation updates on MCATM Facebook page.

Congratulations to Ms. Rhiannon Clark from RMIT University who won the "Best Student Poster Prize", for a conference travel voucher of $500.

We'd be thankful for your feedback on this workshop and ideas to help us better organise future MCATM 2D Materials Workshops. Please follow this link for a short 6 question survey. Many thanks in advance and we look forward to seeing you at our next workshop in October 2016.
