Current projects | Student research projects
We have open postdoctoral, doctoral positions in the laboratory.
Enquiries from potential students and postdocs are always welcome. The laboratory currently has projects suitable for all levels of student, including Honours, Masters and PhD.
Experience in electrophysiology, electronics, computer science, psychophysics, programming (preferably Python or Matlab) is desirable for doctoral and post-doctoral candidates. However, we value motivation and enthusiasm more than experience.
We offer a simulating and intellectual research environment in the laboratory for staff and students to learn new techniques and develop their careers.
For an idea of the type of research that we do, check our Projects and Publications.

How to apply
Unlike other countries, where a supervisor obtains funding for a PhD and then solicits applications, students in the Australian system apply for a scholarship and obtain direct funding themselves. They consult with potential supervisors and make a choice on who they think is best for them.
The basic procedure is as follows:
- Email an expression of interest to Mehdi Adibi including the following attachments:
- Resume
- Full academic transcript of all undergraduate and post-graduate classes (with translations where required)
- Contact details of at least one referee
- If applicable, an example of written work such as a past University assignment or journal publication.
- You may then meet with your potential supervisor, either in person or via video conference, to discuss the possibility of working together.
- You will be asked to write a 1-2 page project proposal.
- Upon approval of your application, the next step is to proceed with a formal application to Monash University. At this point, the University employs their own ranking system to decide which students will be admitted to the program, and who will receive a scholarship. Detailed information on scholarships available to domestic and international students can be found here. General information about living expenses in Melbourne can be found here.
When to apply?
Monash has two application rounds each year, which differ for domestic and international students. Dates for application rounds can be found here.
In general, you should contact your potential supervisor 6-8 weeks before the relevant deadline to begin planning and discussions.
