Lipid Mediated Structural Immunity

Welcome to the Shahine Group

Our group focuses on the role of lipids in human T-cell mediated immune responses, aiming to provide a molecular basis for the development of novel therapeutics against targeted diseases.

We're part of the Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute, and a member of the Immunity Program.

and the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.

Our research

Elucidating the molecular mechanisms of lipid mediated T cell activation at an atomic resolution is central to the understanding of adaptive immune activation, leading towards targeted therapeutic development against infection, autoimmune conditions, and cancer. Our multidisciplinary research combines biochemical, biophysics, structural biology, and immunological techniques, coupled with access to the ANSTO Australian Synchrotron, to understand these fundamental mechanisms of human immunity.
