Eye Kinematics
Research topic Design and Manipulation
Industry application Medical and Surgical

The human eye rotates with three degrees of freedom (DOF); however, a shift of gaze requires eye rotation in only two degrees of freedom, which leaves the third DOF (torsional rotation) undetermined. The aim of this project is to establish a mathematical tool that can unify eye kinematics in different situations.
The project will explore whether the unified kinematic model of eyes and eye-head coordinations helps to comprehend their physiological behaviours, and to assist with early diagnosis of any physical and neural diseases.
The project aims to provide clues in understanding the relationship between human visual perception and inertial perception, which ultimately can improve the sensory experience in virtual reality and augmented reality applications.
