Telehealth Software
Telehealth Software: Patient Consult Summary App
The enhancing telehealth project produced the Patient Consult Summary software app as an add-on to the Healthdirect Australia telehealth platform. This app allows health practitioners to provide an instant note, such as a consultation summary, with in-built medical terminology explanation, to the patient before the end of a Video Call consultation.
The app was trialled in real-world settings with participating clinicians and patients at Monash Health as part of a feasibility study. Additionally, it underwent a restricted implementation between March and October 2025, where other hospitals and healthcare organisations trialled the app, including the Royal Melbourne Hospital, Western Health (all campuses), Barwon Health (Geelong Hospital), Albury and Wodonga Health, Alfred Health, Northern Health.
This app was developed by Monash University’s Faculty of Information Technology researchers (project leadership and technical implementation) in collaboration with Monash Health (clinical evaluation), Healthdirect Australia (telehealth industry partner), the University of Melbourne (co-design and simulated evaluation), with funding from Digital Health CRC Ltd and Victoria Department of Health. It was iteratively co-designed and evaluated with clinicians, patients, and carers using an agile research and development approach.
