Problem

Health services face challenges accessing timely, accurate, and actionable data to support accreditation and quality improvement. Many rely on manual processes and retrospective reporting, limiting responsiveness and efficiency. While we have shown the potential for near real-time EMR-derived dashboards in one health service, there is also limited understanding of how to implement and scale this across diverse health service contexts and EMR platforms. Understanding the time, resource requirements, and value of such implementations is essential to enable broader adoption.

Activities

ADAPt 2 is a stepwise implementation trial at two trial health service sites: one with an Oracle Health EMR and the other with a different EMR, ideally Epic. The project will adapt existing National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) standards dashboards (ADaPt-EH) built by the project team and implement these at each trial site. Activities include mapping existing healthcare quality measures, assessing implementation readiness, collecting baseline data, testing and evaluating each stage, refining documentation, developing data extraction/validation guides, handover, and monitoring.

Objectives

This project seeks to test the applicability, utility and value of the ADAPt-EH dashboards in other health service settings.

  • Understand the time and resource cost to implement, rollout, and maintain the ADAPt dashboards at other health services.
  • Determine the value (via cost-benefit analysis) of the use of the ADAPt dashboards in different health services, environments, and EMR platforms.
  • Produce refined documents and architecture to support future wider use and pave the way for commercialisation.
