Gazealytics - Visual eye tracking analysis toolkit

This research and development has run in parallel to our control room research and other eye tracking research. This has resulted in the creation of an open-source toolkit for eye tracking visual analysis. We continue to update and improve the system with new features. This toolkit is used by a good number of eye tracking researchers, teachers and practitioners globally.

Why? In 2019 when we started working on control room eye tracking analysis, we identified a gap in the eye tracking analysis software. There was limited ability in standard eye tracking analysis software to go beyond statistical outcome and visual heatmaps to be able to explore the data visually for identification pattern and investigation.

We started to explore interactive visualisations in late 2019. These early visualisations became a desktop application. We ran a number of interviews with eye tracking users and researchers where we demoed the tool and asked their input. Seeing rich potential beyond our use case we moved the system to a web browser for ensuring a wide range of users can use the toolkit. We also made the toolkit open source for continued improvements.
