Livermore Computing (LC), Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory's (LLNL's) supercomputing center, and HPE are deploying the first US exascale system focused on national security. The system will feature the AMD MI300A, the first datacenter Accelerated Processing Unit (APU) as well as other significant innovations such as HPE's Rabbit modules. This talk will provide an overview of the system architecture of LC's first exascale system, including details of the MI300A, and an unpdate on the progress of the system's installation. Throughout, the talk will explore considerations for energy efficiency in large-scale systems and how El Capitan's innovations will result in energy efficiency improvements.
