This drawing shows the changing identity of the site Deer Park throughtout the history, and try to create a new identity in a modern background. In the past centuries, the Deer Park experienced a transformation from natural land to gold rush town, then became an industrial base of melbourne. In the modern years, the site is on the precipice of modern transformation, or it may be cleaned up and lost its memories. The image attempt to connects the old and new, past and future. By analysing the modern lifestyle and human activity, to find the potential possibility and risk for the site in a modern background.

Water is the source of the lives and land. In the Deer Park, accompanied by economic growth and modernism, the Kokoroit creek plays different but crucial roles in the transition of the area. In the early ages, the creek is the main water source for plants and creatures surrounding the creek, it was totally natrual, clean and wild. In the following century, the area soon experienced a development and the creek had became the blood vessel of the land. From a sprititual vessel to physical and material vessel for human, the original environments of the creek was deteriorate. It is the time to think the future role of the creek in modern age: where should the creek flows to?

The bridge house complex is composed by three different bridges: history museum, natural museum&lab and activity space. They are intersected with each other, allowing freely movement inside different spaces. The project is to create a legitimate space in which difference could be articulated, in which the space was encouraged to be “read” like a book, perfomed like a silent and neutral reminder of hidden reality, and help visitor in understanding the complication of Deer Park. The different functions of spaces embrace the modern lifestyle and surrounding landscape, and developed new stories above the history and scars.

Different bridge providing different functions and spaces to fulfill the modern demand. The history museum is to connected the past to future, records and traces the historical transition to evoke visitor's emotions. The natural museums is for exhibition, education, sightsee and research, communicate to natural environment. The acitivity room is for relaxing, reading and mediation. Is a bridge of modern life.
By diffenenciate the functions, the project is to create a legitimate space in which difference could be articulated, in which the space was encouraged to be “read” like a book, perfomed like a silent and neutral reminder.

The project is about intersection and connection. The bridge is a metaphor of that. History (development), nature and human acitivity are towarding to differnet directions and angle, so the conflicts are always exist. It is important for people to realize and determine the right direction.

The project is about future, trying to create a modern identity for the site. The project embrace the modern lifestyle and surrounding landscape to developed new stories above the background.Rather than ruin the heritage or just record in a dispassionate way, the space of the project try to integrated meaning in a more engaging and dynamic manner. The complex are meant to become a activity and service center for local residents, encourage people to gathering and having more communication with the land’s identity, spending more time on the environment and building more emotional bond, rather than simply across the creek as they used to be.
