Located in Ulus, Ankara Turkey, this project involves the repurposing of the historic Sulu Han building into an Aquatic Center with additional civic spaces. Built in 1613 the original building is of historical civic importance but has been unsuccessful as a retail plaza now vacated and abandoned. Aquatic centers are not common in Ankara & the locals are not accustomed to this kind of civic interaction. The insertion aims to create a new civic engagement by adapting traditions while being inclusive. The project improves the public interface of the building, with its surroundings where communities can occupy with or without using the Aquatic center. It is both familiar & challenging.
