The Carnegie Swim Centre in Melbourne is an existing place of historical and cultural significance to the community, This project retains the existing modest linear swimming pool building, but updates it with expanded facilities to suit current requirements through the provision of a new parallel companion building, and an upper floor cross-shaped rooftop addition. Viewed both from outside and within, the project physically and conceptually reinforces the connections of this important local civic architecture with its surroundings. The project maintains its valuable links to the past while creating a rejuvenated civic place for the community to gather and celebrate.
