Located in Glen Waverley, the project explores community engagement through the lens of reconnecting with the natural environment. It aims to create a civic pool facility that exists as community parklands embedded within its environment, in an attempt to reconnect people with nature and juxtapose the current civic conditions of the suburb.. Glen Waverley is famously known for The Glen Shopping Centre, exemplifying civic characteristics driven by consumerism that has become the heart of community interaction. The project uses the language of walls as an architectural tool to deconstruct and rethink the existing architectural language of Glen Waverley’s civic and recreational buildings.

Main Pool

The project explores the concept of walkability by creating an extended continuation of the
Dandenong Creek Trail throughout the site. It integrates itself through the parklands area of Glen Waverley, creating a civic space that juxtaposes the existing civic language in Glen Waverley, reconnecting the community with the natural environment, which is a highlighted feature of suburbia.

Site Sections

The project uses a consistent timber clad for the built material, reflecting the common timber pavilions and infrastructure found in local parks, especially in Glen Waverley. Walking through the site, it’s topographically in line with the main high street road, in which using trees and pathways help to create a balance between the openness of the site. Being an outdoor pool, it also incorporates plants as a biofilter for the pools, further adding a level of connectivity with the natural environment. The built form also has elements where indoor/outdoor environments can be created.
