EXISTING PLAN

This existing property owned by Disability Housing Victoria (DHV) is a single-story brick veneer detached dwelling, located in the middle of a quiet residential street yet is adjacent to a busy main road. In its existing condition, the linear plan allows for a central circulation zone with bedrooms predominantly to the north and services areas to the south, living zones are found at the either end and the middle contains 5 compact bedroom and a carer’s office. The house is very disconnected from the street as street access is unclear and utilizes the driveway as well as being fenced off.

PROPOSED RECONFIGURATION

The new reconfigured design for the dwelling has reduced the number of bedroom spaces from five down to three and adapting that bedroom hub is to have shared walls. Retaining the two living spaces and the expansion of these zones on the eastern side of the site allows for an open plan while the central smaller one can be utilized for smaller more private occasions. Providing a carers unit to the front of the house with its own dedicated entry allows them to enter and exit the property without disturbing the residence and allows for a type of communal watch over the property. There is also now a unified and universal access off the street and the backyards usability has been increased.

BEFORE & AFTER

The view on the left illustrates what the bedrooms look like in their existing conditions, as you can see, they’re small and crowded not a very nice space where you would want to spend a lot of time in. The view on the right is depicts the new spacious bedrooms with plenty of room to move around, large full height windows with views and letting large amounts of natural light in. As well as the connection to your private courtyard and ensuite.

BATHROOM POD CONSTRUCTION SEQUENCE

This series of drawings demonstrate the demolition and construction sequence required for the installation of the two new bathroom pods located between the northern boundary and existing structure where the new bedroom hubs are situated in the proposed plan.
