My project is a government funded program that aims to revitalise regional towns by providing them with community spaces that can be transformed and occupied after disasters. This provides local communities with an existing pavilion structure that has a series of concrete tilt up walls, creating intimate gathering spaces. In an event of a disaster the government will fund a series of prefabricated dwellings that will be assembled under the existing structure. The dwellings will be disassembled after 2 years and stored in the pavilion for future use. This system allows for a quick and efficient disaster response, ensuring that vulnerable bushfire victims are housed immediately post disaster.

Pavilion - After a disaster

This image displays the exterior view of the pavilion when the prefabricated dwellings have been assembled on site after a disaster has occurred.

Transport and Assembly

The following diagram displays the transportation and assembly process of the dwellings. As the dwellings will be assembled under a community pavilion, the roof structure and two insulated external walls will already be on site. Therefore, only two external and internal walls are required as well as a decking and steel base with pier footings.

Process timeline

This diagram displays how the existing pavilion can be transformed during various stages. It begins as a government funded program that aims to revitalise regional towns by providing them with a series of intimate community spaces that can be transformed and occupied after disasters. When a disaster occurs the pavilion is transformed into a shelter for temporary dwellings. While residents are living in the temporary accommodation, the pavilion structure will be replicated on a residential lot to allow for a permanent housing solution in which residents can rent or buy the dwellings.

Section of the community pavilion and market

This section diagram displays how the pavilion functions as a community hall as well as a weekend market for the locals to gather and shop at before the temporary dwellings are assembled on site after a disaster event.

Section of the prefabricated dwellings assembled under the pavilion

This section displays what occurs after a disaster has impacted the community. In this instance, the pavilion will be transformed into an emergency shelter in which the government will respond to the disaster impact by funding a series of prefabricated dwellings that will be assembled on site in a quick and efficient manner.
