Stella Chau

Hello, it’s Stella here! I have a passion for working on fun playful projects with my work ranging from publications, printed work and identity! Currently my passion lies within UX/UI Design, with many of my projects delving into fun websites and apps! I’m constantly exploring, creating and being inspired by the world around me.

My major project ‘Breaking the Beauty Box’ is an outcome from my Activation class that strives to break the media beauty standard that is constantly pushed on us. While dismantling this illusioned beauty standard, we celebrate individuality! We aren’t boxes to be fit in but wonderful human beings with unique traits.

Breaking the Beauty Box Webpage

Media continues to constantly push impossible beauty standards creating a everchanging box that is unattainable, as each decade the standard changes from skinny Kate Moss to curvy Kim K. Breaking the Beauty Box is a campaign that strives to break this embracing individuality and dismantling the media box it holds upon us.

Breaking the Beauty Box Webpage explores the everchanging ‘It” Body, providing a small history timeline of the constantly changing standard users get to see there is no such thing as a perfect body. Celebrating individuality users are then encouraged to select a unique trait they love about themselves and add to the post it note wall.

Breaking the Beauty Box Affirmations Booth

Break the Beauty Box Affirmations Booth gets individuals to look at themselves directly in the mirror and pick a unique trait about themselves, writing it down and sticking them on the walls of the booth. It encourages individuals to see the most beautiful traits about themselves and becomes a stepping stone towards self love and confidence.

Break the Beauty Box Mirror Decals

These Mirror Decals provide positive and fun prompts to individuals and encourage them to see a positive feature about themselves. Mirror decals provide a wider reach and provides an alternative and accessible way individuals can interact with the campaign.

Breaking the Beauty Box DRK

Before creating Breaking the Beauty Box campaign, an interactive research kit was created to gain a deeper understanding of our chosen topic. In my DRK I got participants to face how social media has influenced their perspective on what they believe their ideal body image is. Through this different variations of faces, bodies and shapes were created, showing there isn't one truly universal 'perfect' ideal type.
