Monash Art, Design and Architecture Graduate Exhibition 2023

I am a third-year student who loves experimenting with unique architectural concepts. Over the last studios, I have explored a multitude of precedents and concepts, incorporating them into my own projects to make my own. From mixing old and traditional concepts with more modern ones to using existing concepts in ways never used before. There are endless design possibilities and options to discover.

Modular Design - Salon

With a challenging site in mind, a more unorthodox approach was used to design a mixed-use building. Inspired by Ettore Sottsass's modular equipped containers, I decided to incorporate them with a modern twist that adapts to different sites. However, instead of just equipped furniture, I explored the idea on a broader scale. Not only are the furniture and workstations inside movable and modular elements, but the entire space as well. Each space has its own module. All modules are prefabricated and brought to assembly on-site with endless combinations. Each module can even be its own standalone temporary structure on a different site, allowing for possibilities like pop-up hair salons.

Salon elements are completely movable via track systems. They are able to be put aside and transform the salon into an entirely new space. Overhanging curtains can also be used to partition spaces according to one's liking.

Structure

Structural frames support each module and are designed for easy module assembly and removal
