Best in Studio: 'Minus'

Most outstanding design project in the studio 'Minus,' in the Master of Architecture.

Co-storage & Reserve' Sectional perspective

Two programs are relocated from adjacent Galgi Ngaark grasslands and the Merri Merri into an existing empty building in Bayswater: A storage facility and a campervan business. The buildings are then proposed to be removed and the ecosystem repaired. In their turn the urban realm is regenerated through the new uses.

Proposed Render

This project attempts to address the inefficiency of typical warehouse and horizontal plane-based storage programs through the incorporation of vertical spaces and efficient multi-program design.

The footprint is localised to the existing using alternative vertical storage technology and the camper-van program can exist largely outside, allowing a critical repair of the environmental ground plane.

Investigated sites, each with a different set of programs were found to be significantly inefficient in their spatial usage.

More efficient spaces and land use will afford the opportunity of built form removal, regenerating the Craigieburn Grasslands ,Galgi Ngark, via a process of de-industrialisation.
