During bushfire emergencies, Woombah Park can become crowded with fire trucks, firefighters and the general community. The proposed shelter system enables an extension of sheltered space from the existing structures increasing its capacity for people to self organise.

An accessible, step by step construction manual, designed to be simple enough to be enacted by anyone to assemble the shelter system when required. The designed system aims to empower the community to have ownership of their assets allowing them to build as they need and disassemble when it’s not needed.

The BBQ shelter alterations are designed to be simple, cost effective and easy to deploy on the existing structure. These small proposals intend to provide additional amenity and address the missing needs as expressed by the community. This includes water security, a food preparation space and an enclosed room for services such as rural doctor visits.

The proposed shelter system is designed to dramatically increase the capacity and expansion of the BBQ Shelter. Designed to attach onto the new guttering system, together, they provide community infrastructure for social gathering and cultural events.
