Nymboida Cultural Park

This is a master plan to restore the old James Cartmill Park at Nymboida. It consists of an old tennis court, toilet and a mini pavilion for BBQ. The proposal aims to restore the sport facilities by allowing for more diverse sporting activities to take place through the multipurpose court. The park draws on the Boral ground concept, as well as cultural awareness through education and increasing amenities to regional communities that leads to both visitors and locals experiencing and learning about Nymboida.

Park facilities upgrade

With the intention to raise Gumbaynggirr cultural awareness, the multipurpose court will be painted with local artwork that will be generated by the local community and through traditional owner and indigenous consultation. Playground built of wood material is also proposed for the local kids. A bigger pavilion equipped with a kitchen and store is also proposed. The pavilion functions in a dual mode. During an emergency, it can be triaged as a temporary shelter. While in normal mode, it can be used for recreational activities as well as a community hall and gathering area.

River access

A key finding and deep want from the co-creation workshops was better and safer access to the river that flows through Nymboida. Due to the strategic location of the park, it acts as one of the canoe access points. A few pavilions are proposed to capture the view of the river which will help with river education as well as general appreciation of this natural resource. It also acts as a shed for recreational activities like swimming and canoeing.
