Monash Art, Design and Architecture Graduate Exhibition 2023

Raised Above design proposal is situated in Colac, Victoria, within the Deans Creek PSP Growth Plan and boasts a prime location overlooking Lake Colac. Raised Above nurtures community engagement and the holiday/rental housing and restaurant fosters a sense of place in Colac.

All ages are welcomed with different housing types to suit living conditions. The housing has been designed to withstand flooding using a hydraulic system to ensure the impact is minimal and beneficial to flood inundation. Residents and travellers have the opportunity to navigate through the walking/cycling paths.

Master plan

The raised above masterplan comprises of three different road types the trafficable and cycling roads, permeable roads and walking paths. Car parking is available outside of the housing to create a carless area. There are three different housing types reaching a large target audience for big families, groups to couples and single person stays. The lake frontage restaurant provides and public amenity that is sought after in Colac.

Flooding, hydraulic Systems & Raingardens

The proposed dwellings surround an area of Land Subject to Flood inundation because of its close proximity to the lake. In the case that the area does flood there are hydraulic systems put in place to raise the buildings to minimize the damage of flooding. To help prevent flooding rain gardens have been put in place to help catch water and have better storm water drainage
