I am Yi Herng Soon, currently pursuing a Master of Architecture. In the second semester of 2023, I am part of a studio that emphasizes collaborative efforts. My team consists of three other members, and together we are tasked with the creation of a six-pack apartment complex. Our goal is to ensure that our design not only fits seamlessly into the suburban landscape but also remains relevant both now and in the foreseeable future. We are striving to reimagine the suburban apartment in a way that it appears something like a house...for 12ish.
Sideness: A large room with a roller door
In re-using the double brick skin, observations have been made on the preceding six-pack apartment typology, realised in a contemporary context. The site now has six dwellings, each for between two to six occupants.
Indoor veranda: Inside the semi-enclosed veranda
Amongst these dwellings is a shared indoor garden at the front that bows around an existing tree, a large semi enclosed veranda in the middle, and large communal space above which faces the reserve.
Backness: Looking in from a neighbour
Furnished ground floor plan
The building now has gardens on all sides, with some thinner than others, one with a new tree and a rock underneath and one side spilling into the reserve.
South elevation
On a rectangular site, in between public amenity and private dwelling, sits a rectangular brick building of five dwellings.
