Monash Art, Design and Architecture Graduate Exhibition 2023

I am a young Chinese-Australian designer/artist with a passion for kinda... Everything. As a communication designer, I often find myself immersed in the world of people’s visual language and expression through the world around us and my practices. In my university life, I’ve learnt to express and communicate not only on presumed flat and digital screens of our modern lives. But I’ve touched on motion, virtual realities, real-life modelling, and out-of-the-ordinary ways to print and I learnt the history and ethics of designing for a better world. I hope to create conversation and awareness between humans and the world we live in through my works, bringing out the best and worst of all of it.

'Instruction Animation'

This is an animation that acts as a short list of recommended habits we could incorporate into our daily lives to keep our mental health in check. As the animation is directed at teenagers, I used a rather cute character with simple animation making it easier to understand.

A Library of Niche Things

This project comes from the topic of niche things each of us collect. We then were to transform these collections into our own personal libraries through webflow- a website design/making service. As my own collection is rather just posters which I have collected over the years from artists who I enjoy, it is rather more of a Gallery.

Principles of Animation (Cat)

For this GIF, I animated a looping sequence in which a cat character is forever trapped to face a series of misfortunes over and over. This is the first frame-to-frame animation that I had completed and am yet still very happy with it. Can you identify the three main principles of animation I used?

Not for Nothin' (Hounds + Help)

Not for Nothin’ is a branding and identity project I undertook this year. From the project I learnt a lot about how much work truly goes into creating a brand. The NFP organisation which I designed for is Delta Therapy dogs, a service which provides therapy though people and dogs bonding. Although their original branding was okay, it seemed outdated and inconsistent. As a result, I decided to redesign the brand to look cleaner and more simple.

Digital ‘nd Dependent

This is my campaign Digital ‘nd dependent. As technology grows our dependency to it also grows. Slowly our world had been enveloped by a unspoken social expectation for everyone to live online and be “connected”. In response to this global addiction, I have made “Digital ‘nd Dependent”, a campaign designed to encourage awareness and help create thought or consciousness behind decisions people make to be online. I decided to explore this topic due to personal experience, studying the scary realities behind human reliance on digital appliances as well as the ever-growing capabilities of the digital world.

Face Mask Pattern

This is a project in which I designed a pattern for physical applications. I chose to illustrate two characters from a game which I enjoy and made them in a rather cute style. I then applied them to daily apparel which would be used by medical staff (or anyone). I chose this as I find that as there is always a demand for medical personnel, yet there are not many newer styles of apparel designed to increase the mental wellbeing of staff.
