I’m a communication designer and I have a passion for illustration, animation, screen printing and branding. I like to use my illustrations and incorporate creative narratives throughout my projects, aiming to give joy and happiness to the audience. I spent my final semester under Collaborative Studio Intensives in Prato, Italy. My Survival project is an illustrated storybook titled ‘Would You be a Carrot in Beef Stew or Salad’ inspired from my own background living in a foreign country. This book aims to question the audience on whether they would like to blend in or stick out within a new culture, and inspire them to find their personal cultural identity.

I was inspired from the question that one of my friends asked; “Would you be a carrot in a beef stew or in a salad?”. This question asks whether you would like to blend into a new culture and lose some of yourself or keep your own identity but be different from others.

This is a short storybook with simple illustrations is narrated from the perspective of the Carrot. He visits beef stew and salad. After the visits, he is not happy with either of them. He gets confused and disappointed that he is not sure where he belongs. He soon realises that the first two options, blending in or sticking out, are not the only ones, and goes on a journey to find a town that suits him the best.
