Hello! I’m Matt and I’m a multi-disciplinary designer and creative working within the intersection of design and music living in Melbourne. Growing up, I’ve always had an interest for all things creative and am grateful that I have the opportunity to craft beautiful and meaningful experiences. Throughout my studies I have been able to learn and apply my own visual explorations into my projects, honing my skills and striving to design with purpose, professionalism and fun. I aspire to be knowledgable in the design field and practiced, to be able to create something that will affect the world in a positive way.

bloom.

bloom is my campaign I have developed that
is based off music and its relation to people’s
memories and emotion. I decided to research this
topic as I - like everyone else - is someone who
loves music and listens to it almost everyday. Thanks to prior research, I was largely inspired by this
idea of interactivity and decided to place a focus
on linking music and memories and emotions with
interaction; which ultimately led me to desigining
bloom - the card game that’s all about music. While
the title maybe confusing, the word bloom is actually
an audiophile term that means “a full sound within a
recording.“

One of my supporting outcomes I decided to make were poster and packaging designs for bloom. I took a lot of inspiration from Japanese graphic design elements, mostly from Japanese graphic designer Ikko Tanaka. The floral based designs of my campaign were a result of me exploring what sort of shapes I could make using my orginal pixel-based designs, however I wanted to stick with these designs after having found out the word bloom is an actual audiophile term.

My other supporting outcome I decided to develop was a publication that adds onto bloom, both informatively as well as effectively. The publication acts as a guide and helps explain the game in more detail - explaining rules and reasons as to why it exists. Moreover, it also acts as additional content that effects the rules of the game; where players are able to create their own custom cards.

After struggling how to approach the direction my campaign, I decided to explore the idea of designing a card game as I was inspired by my design research kit to implement some sort of interactivity in my final campaign. The rules of the game are simple by design; different categories of cards have players answer and play the game differently depending on what card they draw.
